Couple of things. This movie has way more laughs than I expected - it’s honestly more of a comedy and just a genuinely fun time. The tone is perfect and consistent. Acting is on point. It’s easily as beautiful to look at as his other films. If you hate jump scares though, there’s a ton in this one. Beware. Also, if you’re a fan of the games there is a metric shit-ton of fan-service. I was seeing references almost every five minutes from the outset and then I just stopped keeping track. And it’s not wink-wink fan-service either. It was knitted pretty subtly into the plot and mostly showed up in the background somewhere. So there’s no chance non-fans would be puzzled or confused.

That all said, this is my least favorite of Cregger’s films. It’s a popcorn movie that you check your mind out at the door for. His other movies had more to chew on and stayed with me for days after. Still, you can tell he had fun making this and, as I mentioned above, that is always a joy to watch.
