Send Help, 2026 - ★★½

It’s nice to see Raimi back in the saddle, but only purely for nostalgic reasons.
Send Help is a very silly movie that only works if the lead (or leads in this case) are willing to go all in on the premise and the spirit of Raimi’s style of storytelling. Luckily, McAdams (who I love) is very much on board and clearly had a ton of fun with this role. Her foil, played by O’Brien, is equally game, but he plays such a despicable asshole so well that I was genuinely irritated that he didn’t die in the first 20 minutes of the film. Which I suppose is high praise really.
Plenty of nods to the Evil Dead franchise in this if you are looking for them. Really bad CGI in many parts of this, not sure what the budget was, but it wasn’t spent on the VFX that’s for sure. Lots of funny, over-the-top gore pieces in this too, but they feel sparse because this film is easily 30 minutes too long.
Definitely worth a rental and try to see it with a friend or three. There will be some laughs for sure! And these days? It doesn’t get much better than that.
