Lee Cronin's The Mummy, 2026 - ★★★

This is probably a 2.5 star honestly, but there was so much “throw everything against the wall and let’s see what sticks!!” gusto from the mid point of this movie to the credits, that it became this conceptual highlight reel that kinda-sorta won me over. Much of the second half of this film is a fever dream of odd, often gross for the sake of grossness, individual scenes with very little connective tissue (it felt like a classic reshoots scenario honestly). Which is a shame, because the central concept of the film is bleak as hell, but that all gets lost in the campiness of it all.
I loved his last film Evil Dead: Rise, so I had high hopes that this would meet at that level. It doesn’t but, there was enough here that I am still curious about what he does next.
See this with a group if possible. Lots of fun moments of squirming in your seat to share!
