All the Knives Out tales have been, at the very least, really entertaining. I’ve loved all of Johnson’s films (even his Star Wars entry) but Wake Up Dead Man feels - and I have nothing to base this on - his most personal film to date. Filled with amazing performances, shot beautifully, written with heart, wit, and surprisingly nutty humor. This feels like a movie he made for himself to make him, or someone he really loves, simply smile. Think more Murder She Wrote, and less mid-2010’s BBC Sherlock.

Ironically, after saying all of that, it was my least favorite film of his. He’s just made so many excellent films!! But even so, nonetheless, I appreciated it a lot and genuinely hope he continues his Blanc series for as long as he can.
