It’s not everyday that you get an a24 caliber movie about the sub/dom lifestyle that is handled reasonably and with care. I feel the trailer did this one a bit of a disservice in that it didn’t convey the overall tone of the film very well at all, positioning it more as a quirky romcom and not a particularly serious film. While there are moments of genuine levity throughout, they are somewhat brief. So a traditional date movie this is not. But it is an interesting film that shines a light on a lifestyle that you rarely get to see in a mainstream theater. So in that way, it felt important. Heads up though. This is an unrated movie. It definitely earns that rating at points.
